Who We Are
The Sudanese Community Association Northern Ireland (SCANI) is a non-profit, community-led organisation based in Belfast that brings together Sudanese families and individuals living across Northern Ireland. Established in [YEAR_FOUNDED], SCANI grew out of a simple need: a welcoming home-away-from-home where members of the Sudanese diaspora could stay connected to their culture, support one another, and build strong, lasting ties with the wider community in our city.
Today we represent a vibrant community of around 500 members — students, professionals, families and elders — united by shared heritage and a commitment to helping each other thrive in Northern Ireland.
What We Do
- Connect the community — social gatherings, cultural celebrations and family events that keep Sudanese traditions alive.
- Support new arrivals — practical help and friendly guidance for families settling into life in Belfast, from schools to services.
- Celebrate our culture — Eid celebrations, Sudanese Independence Day, cultural nights, food, music and language.
- Build bridges — working alongside other communities, councils and organisations across the city to promote understanding and integration.
- Empower our youth — activities and mentoring that help young Sudanese people grow proud of their identity and confident in their future.
