Community Projects

Beyond our social and cultural events, SCANI runs a number of ongoing projects that make a real, practical difference to the lives of our members and the wider community in Northern Ireland. These projects are made possible by the generosity, time and skills of our volunteers.

Welcome and Settlement Support

New to Belfast? Our settlement programme pairs newly arrived Sudanese families with experienced members who can help them navigate schools, healthcare, housing and local services — turning a daunting move into a warm welcome.

Arabic and Heritage Classes

Weekend classes help children and young people learn Arabic and connect with Sudanese history, culture and values — ensuring the next generation grows up proud of who they are.

Youth Activities and Mentoring

From sports days to study support and mentoring, we create opportunities for young people to build confidence, friendships and skills for the future.

Cultural Awareness and Integration

We partner with schools, councils and other communities across Belfast to share Sudanese culture — through food, music, art and storytelling — building understanding and friendship between communities.

Community Welfare and Solidarity

In times of need — illness, bereavement or hardship — SCANI rallies around its members with practical and emotional support, embodying the spirit of community that defines us.
