Sudanese Community Joins Stormont Leaders’ Press Conference, Reaffirms Rejection of Violence

Northern Ireland | 9 June 2026 — The Executive Committee of the Sudanese Community in Northern Ireland took part on Tuesday 9 June 2026 in the press conference held by Stormont leaders and the police, under the umbrella of the Collective Representative of Ethnic Minority Communities in Northern Ireland.

Solidarity and an Absolute Rejection of Violence

The participation followed the regrettable events witnessed in the area the previous night. The Executive Committee expressed its full solidarity with those affected, affirming its absolute rejection of all forms of violence, racism and hate speech. During the conference, the committee also underlined the Sudanese community’s commitment to positive integration into society and to playing an active part in building it and strengthening its stability.

A Call for Calm and Accuracy

During the conference, officials clarified that the individual involved in the incident is a Sudanese national in his thirties, resident in the United Kingdom. The relevant authorities called on everyone to remain calm and exercise restraint, and to be wary of rumours and unverified information circulating on social media platforms.

For their part, the police confirmed that strict security measures will be put in place — including a security cordon in the areas concerned — with a continued security presence to ensure residents’ safety and maintain order and stability throughout.
