Sudanese Community Participates in the People’s Café Event in Derry
The Executive Committee of the Sudanese Community in Northern Ireland took part, following an official invitation, in the Intercultural Community — People’s Café event held in Derry. The event aimed to strengthen community engagement and foster partnerships with local organisations and public bodies.
A Voice for the Community
During the event, the President of the Sudanese Community delivered a speech on behalf of the community, highlighting its role and its commitment to making a positive contribution to the local community as an integral part of it. He emphasised the importance of collaboration and engagement with all sections of society to promote the values of inclusion, mutual understanding and community cohesion.
Building Partnerships
Members of the Executive Committee met a number of Mayors, Councillors and representatives of supporting organisations and community groups. Discussions focused on key issues affecting the Sudanese community — particularly the need to secure a permanent community venue, and support for the community’s projects, programmes and activities.
Supporting Our Students
Arrangements were also made for a meeting with the University Students’ Union to explore closer cooperation and joint initiatives — enhancing support for Sudanese students, encouraging their participation in student activities, and strengthening their integration into university life and the wider local community.
This participation forms part of the Sudanese community’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its presence within the wider community and expanding cooperation with public institutions and voluntary organisations across Northern Ireland. See more of our community projects and upcoming events.
