Sudanese Community Joins First Anniversary of English for Medical Purposes Programme

The Sudanese Community Northern Ireland (SCNI) joined the celebration marking the first anniversary of the English for Medical Purposes programme, held at Shaftesbury Community Centre and managed by breaking Barriers. The Sudanese Community was represented by Dr Awad, a member of the SCNI Executive Committee and a beneficiary of the programme, who highlighted the importance of this free service in supporting refugee and migrant doctors and healthcare professionals to develop their medical English skills and strengthen their professional opportunities. The programme is supported through the work of community organisations including Breaking Barriers, which supports refugees through education, language tuition and employment, and LORAG, which provides community support and facilities for programmes such as this. The Sudanese Community would also like to encourage newly arrived doctors and healthcare professionals who are interested in finding out about organisations that provide support, courses and other free services to contact the Sudanese Community Northern Ireland. We will be happy to help signpost them to relevant organisations and available opportunities. Finally, SCNI extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to Breaking Barriers and LORAG for their valuable support, services and continued efforts to assist different minority communities, and particularly for the valuable support and services they provide to the Sudanese community in Northern Ireland.SCNI greatly appreciates these initiatives, which contribute to creating opportunities for learning, integration and positive participation in the wider community.
